We understand that going solar is a big decision and we want you to have all the facts. That’s why we are here to help! Before you decide to go solar there is some important information that you should know. First let’s start off with what solar power is. Solar power is energy from the sun in the form of heat and light and it can produce renewable energy. Solar energy is the largest and cleanest renewable energy source available. Since solar energy comes from the sun it is a limitless source of power.
Throughout the day the cells on your solar panels absorb energy from sunlight. Circuits within the cells collect that energy and turn it into direct current (DC) electricity. Since solar panels only produce power when there is sun, storing produced but unused energy throughout the day for later use has become increasingly important. After that the DC is passed through a device called an inverter to convert it into alternating current (AC) electricity used by most homes and businesses. You can use that electricity in your home or send it back to the grid, which is called net metering. Net metering is when you make excess electricity with solar panel systems and send it back to the grid. When your house is net-metered you will see the meter run backwards. This means you may be able to get a credit from the electricity you use from the grid when it isn’t sunny or at nighttime.
With net-metering you can save by going solar!
What about the maintenance of the solar panels?
Don’t worry! Solar panel systems are very durable and they require little to no maintenance over their lifetime, which can span 25 years or more.
